So, I'm a mom... I have a camera... now what?

Okay, so maybe you're not even a mom. Maybe you just want to expand your potential as a photographer, and you want to learn the tricks of the trade for photographing kids.

You've come to the right place! Sarah Dobbins Photography of Cookeville, TN is hosting a workshop this spring for mamarazzi--that is, moms with a camera who want to learn how to take better pictures of their kids.

This is an all-day workshop that covers location, lighting (our light source being THE SUN!), camera settings, and tips and tricks for getting those shots we love.

Then onto editing. How to make the most of your pictures once you get them on your computer.

There will be a portion of the workshop that involves putting your new knowledge into action
and shooting actual models.

Technical info: It's preferred that you have and bring a DSLR--that is, a digital camera that has a body that can come apart from the lens. If all you have is a point-and-sh
oot camera, and you still want to come, then come on! But be aware that a lot of what we will cover will only apply to DSLR's... or at least a camera where you have control over some settings (aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc.)

I will be editing in Photoshop CS2. I will talk about Photoshop Elements and how it's a great
program for doing basic editing--and you can get it for under $100.

Here is a before and after with my simple editing steps:

And here's an example of how you can take a mundane location (my less-than-neat living room) and, with a good understanding of light, turn it into a beautiful portrait you'd hang on your wall! (And I've been meaning to print this one for months... Someone else will have to teach you how to promptly print pictures of your kids--I am no help!)

The workshop will take place on a Saturday and will last from 9am-3pm or thereabouts. Lunch will be provided! In addition, there will be a few take home goodies and a few lucky gals (or guys) will win a fabulous gift.

There is a minimum number of participants needed for the workshop to take place, so share with all your friends!

Details about time, place, and cost will be forthcoming (hopefully soon!!). Stay tuned!
